Yeah, okay. I know what you're thinking: "Why's this under 'Creative Services..."? Well, to be honest I in two minds as studio design should really come under Technical Services. On the other hand, there is a huge artistic element to it. I hate cables all over the place and do what I can to ensure that connections between gear are as discrete as possible.
The creative environment should be an ultimately enjoyable place to work. It should be inspiring, relaxing and of course productive. All of that can however, be easily negated by unreliability for example or simply forgetting how things are connected when you come back from a two-week vacation!
My studios all come with a studio plan. Similar to a user manual, the studio plan is designed with the owner / user and ensures that information can be accessed in the fastest and most efficient way. We all think differently, right?
Over the years, I've designed, supplied, fitted and commissioned recording studios for private individuals, schools, colleges and named artists. Not everyone knows what they want. Few people are aware of the options out there now-a-days and although most of us like to think that we 'know what we like', the truth is that we actually 'like what we know'. Do you know why the Shure SM-58 is the de facto performance microphone? No? Well, it might be because it's just that everyone else says so! Hmm....
Over the decades, I've always stayed in touch with music technology and many consider me well qualified to guide those who want to use it to, well, record.
One of my fortes is getting old tech' to talk with new tech' so don't worry if you have some favourite bits of gear that are a couple of decades old. Being a musician myself and having a small collection of vintage Marshalls, synthesisers, drum machines and multi-effects processors that not only need to talk to each other but also need to communicate with the latest operating systems, I know exactly where you're coming from.
I don't compromise. I only use Neutrik audio connectors, for example. All analogue audio sources are converted to +4dBm balanced signals as soon as possible. Where appropriate, looms are made-to-measure and your studio will definitely be built to last.
So, if you're after style, ergonomics, reliability and sonic excellence, then give me a call.
