How is Plasma Music responding to new EU EPR legislation

As of 12th August 2026, the EU and Norway have introduced a new EPR compliancy requirement for all bodies exporting to the EU and Norway.

EPR stands for Extended Producer Responsibility.

Of course I'm totally up for reducing packaging waste, microplastics and anything that protects our precious environment. The implementation of the EPR legislation however, is quite simply awful and will mean that cross-border trade within the EU and not just trade from outside the EU, will be severely affected. Some of the requirements are listed as follows:

    • Registration needs to be completed separately for each EU member state and Norway.
    • The cost of registration and requirements varies between member states.
    • An authorised representative must be registered in each member state and Norway.
    • An authorised representative must have insurance specifically for the job of being a representative.
    • There is a cost for disposing of packaging waste which must be paid annually in each member state and Norway.
    • Records of packaging must be maintained and submitted to each member state and Norway.

    It is with deep regret therefore, that I am suspending the supply of my products to the EU and Norway until such time that Plasma Music Limited is EPR compliant in all relevant EU member states and Norway.

    The EU and Norway could have made the application process so much easier. While the EU says publicly that all businesses are treated equally, the resources required for a small business to become fully EPR compliant in each EU country and Norway is the same that is required for large corporations to become fully EPR compliant in each EU country and Norway. It seems apparent therefore, that while a good idea, the implementation of EPR registration is almost designed to make life difficult and in some cases impossible, for artists, creators, hobbyists and micro-businesses.
