CHANGES TO US IMPORT DUTY

Up until 29th August 2025, items entering the United States with a value of less than $800 were exempt from import duty. The discontinuation of the $800 de minimis exemption for all countries, means that ALL items are now subject to US import duty, irrespective of value. Duty on items from the United Kingdom is 10%.

To ensure that your purchase arrives quickly and without too much hassle, I've chosen to pay the duty via the courier that I use (usually Royal Mail) and as such, I've reluctantly had to split my 'US & Canada' shipping cost into two and increase my charges to the US.

I'm so sorry guys.

SIMMONS SDS7 HEAVEN - Back in eighties, I was part of the Simmons team based in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England. A couple of years ago, I made the decision to get reengaged with my Simmons past and developed several peripherals for a few of those classic instruments. As it turned out, I designed a lot of bits 'n' pieces for the Simmons SDS7 specifically, so many in fact, that I decided to give the SDS7 its own category in my online store.

AMEP Advanced Memory Expansion Pack for the Simmons SDS7
Product Details

After programming your Simmons SDS7, it can be quite disappointing to learn that there's only one way to back up all your hard work. If you don't have an original Simmons memory cassette or a clone to do that, then you have ensure that your SDS7's memory is always kept active. I'm sorry to say that even if you do have one of the old memory back-up devices, you won't be surprised to know just how unreliable they were!

Replacing the original Simmons MEP (memory expansion pack) or memory cassette, AMEP (Advanced Memory expansion Pack) is a modern external memory back-up device for the Simmons SDS7.

Here are some benefits that AMEP offer:

  • Small compact design imposes less torque on SDS7's DIN 41612 expansion port.
  • Retains memory protect switch as per original Simmons memory cassette.
  • Uses a standard, readily available non-rechargeable battery (CR2032) so no need to regularly plug into a powered up SDS7.
  • Battery current drain will theoretically power AMEP for approximately twenty to twenty-five years*.
  • Battery can be changed without losing memory due to on-board super capacitor**.
  • Four time the capacity of the original Simmons memory cassette.
  • Unlike the original Simmons memory cassette and clones, AMEP does not compromise access to SDS7's sequencer input 1.
  • Considerably more affordable than the original Simmons memory cassette or clones and remember that you're getting the capacity of four old memory cassettes.
  • AMEP is supplied in ESD packaging to help protect your SDS7.
  • Oh yeah and AMEP works with SDS6, too.

* Battery life is approximate and has been calculated using a high-quality, branded CR2032.

** AMEP memory will be retained for approximately half-an-hour after battery removal.

You can read more about AMEP here.

AMEP is made in Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom, only a few miles away from the old Simmons factory in St. Albans, where I used to work.

!!! AMEP is also supplied with a CR2032 battery !!!

AMEP IS NOW ARM'd

The original Simmons memory cassette was massive. So much so, that it was common practice to place a matchbox underneath it, so as to maintain a good contact with the expansion slot connection pins. While AMEP is much smaller and lighter than the Simmons memory cassette, manufacturing tolerances from 1983, means that even AMEP doesn't lock as securely as we'd like.

The addition of four 5mm hex spacers to the connector end of AMEP however, prevents AMEP from rocking when engaged with the DIN41612 connector in the back of the SDS7, delivering a much more secure attachment.

AMEP's Anti Rock Mechanism (ARM) makes things feel a lot more secure.
