PRODUCTS - With over forty years of electronic design and manufacturing experience, mostly in the audio industry, I still love taking on challenges and winning! For me, designing something and seeing it through to a commercial product, is as creative as writing and producing in the studio. Under this category,  you can browse through the things I make to help musicians, producers and engineers, along the way. 🙂

SERVICES (Technical) - Don't let the fact that you're unable to install one of my systems into your beloved piece of vintage equipment scare you off! I'm more than happy to do that for you. I also repair and  service studio and live performance gear as well as renovate vintage synthesisers, signal processors and guitar amps.

SERVICES (Creative) - I've been involved with studio and live music production, since 1985. It's my passion and I have a huge wealth of knowledge and experience. Being a musician myself, I'm able to connect with my clients while I make magic things happen. I'm also a keen photographer, website and graphics designer. If you think I can be of assistance, please do check out this category.

Dark Matter Replacement Power Supply for the Simmons SDS7
Product Details

A 75W modular switched-mode power supply that replaces the original 45W power supply of the Simmons SDS7, Dark Matter conveniently mounts into the space occupied by the SDS7's transformer assembly. All power supply components on the original PSU-board are redundant.

Off-board lithium battery for memory back-up which doesn't have to be regularly recharged, Dark Matter ensures that your memory-board is safe.

Dark Matter has been designed to be fully compatible with Pleiades, offering options as to which battery back-system you'd prefer.

Dark Matter features convenient test points to allow easy monitoring of voltage supply lines.

A revised RESET circuit replaces the original Simmons design allowing the battery to run down to 2V before needing to be changed. The new RESET circuitry also reduces the risk of memory loss when SDS7 is switched off.

No drilling, no permanent modifications, Dark Matter can be removed at any time, thereby allowing you to return your Simmons SDS7 back to factory condition.

WARNING - Installing Dark Matter requires that your SDS7 be substantially dismantled. The Simmons SDS7 is an instrument with a unique personality and some rather interesting quirks. It is therefore recommended that the installation be carried out not just by a qualified and experienced technician but one who is familiar with the Simmons SDS7.

Dark Matter is made in Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom, only a few miles away from the old Simmons factory in St. Albans, where I used to work.
