Nebula balanced outputs for the Roland MKS-70
Product Details

Nebula is a replacement jack-board for the Roland MKS-70 which offers uprated MIDI hardware and balanced outputs. You can read details here.

Here’s a summary of what Nebula offers:

  • Plug and play installation with no soldering required.
  • 6dB hotter signals than unbalanced outputs
  • Increased immunity to external noise
  • Better signal-to-noise ratio
  • Greater dynamic range
  • Reduced crosstalk between left and right channels
  • Reduced crosstalk between module-boards
  • Powerful and cleaner headphone sound
  • Increased MIDI stability

Unlike the original jack-board which implements a rather ingenious passive summing and switching logic via some resistors and the output sockets themselves, Nebula requires that the output mode be changed manually from stereo to individual. That's because switching, 3-pole sockets are just too wide and simply wouldn't have fitted.

The output mode of Nebula is therefore switched via a slide switch which sits in the position of the original output level selector switch.

Like all my stuff, Nebula is hand-made by me in the UK. Please also note that I do NOT believe in spending loads of money on fancy looking packaging. Please don't be disappointed if your Nebula arrives in a rather boring looking box!

Fully detailed, illustrated and printable installation instructions are available after purchase. If you miss the link, please don't hesitate to contact me and I'll send them out to you.

And finally, Nebula is supplied with a rather cool looking self-adhesive reference label which is finished in matt.

Nebula is hand-built in Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom.

UPDATE - 19th January 2024

Nebula's balanced outputs provide increased immunity your MKS-70 and the destination device such as mixer. Nebula can't 'filter' noise that's been picked up inside your MKS-70. Any noise present at Nebula's inputs will be passed on to it's outputs.

My screened audio cables for the Roland MKS-70 help to reduce the pick-up of noise from within the box. These are now available at a discounted price when you buy Nebula.

A WORD ON SHIPPING COSTS

Annoyingly, my shopping cart software displays shipping information after you’ve confirmed your payment option. I’m trying to get this changed as I believe that customers should always know exactly what they’re paying. Of course, I have no control over import duties but I try my best to give clear, concise information.

I therefore maintain a ‘Shipping Prices’ page and visitors to my website who are interested in buying stuff, have the opportunity to check shipping costs to their country / region.

My shipping costs are calculated on item value and not weight as everything is insured.
