CHANGES TO US IMPORT DUTY

Up until 29th August 2025, items entering the United States with a value of less than $800 were exempt from import duty. The discontinuation of the $800 de minimis exemption for all countries, means that ALL items are now subject to US import duty, irrespective of value. Duty on items from the United Kingdom is 10%.

To ensure that your purchase arrives quickly and without too much hassle, I've chosen to pay the duty via the courier that I use (usually Royal Mail) and as such, I've reluctantly had to split my 'US & Canada' shipping cost into two and increase my charges to the US.

SIMMONS SDS7 HEAVEN - Back in eighties, I was part of the Simmons team based in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England. A couple of years ago, I made the decision to get reengaged with my Simmons past and developed several peripherals for a few of those classic instruments. As it turned out, I designed a lot of bits 'n' pieces for the Simmons SDS7 specifically, so many in fact, that I decided to give the SDS7 its own category in my online store.

Cheetah MS6 Power Supply

Product Details

Housed in a robust, die-cast steel enclosure, my Cheetah MS6 external power supply is a solidly built, reliable power plant which replaces the exceedingly unreliable internal power supply of this instrument.

The whole upgrade includes converting the battery charging circuit and then installing a CR123 lithium battery in place of the rather dated Ni-MH memory back-up battery.

A more substantial heatsink is also installed. Properly designed, it ensures that the regulators run at a non-cooking temperature (!), thereby increasing their reliability and life-span.

Here's what's included:

Preliminary check of your MS6.
Taking apart and dismantling the entire unit.
Removing redundant power supply components.
Removing back-up battery and associated components.
Preparing and delivering metalwork of external enclosure and MS6 chassis for drilling.
Building external power supply into steel enclosure and custom power cable.
Installing custom heatsink.
Modifying the battery back-up circuit and installing the new lithium battery.
And of course, reassembling and then testing the unit.

AS OF 12TH FEBRUARY 2025, the power cable is integrated into the MS6. Also, although not operative, the front panel ON / OFF switch and rear voltage switch are not removed. These changes have been implemented so as to preserve the original appearance of the Cheetah MS6.

I'VE ALSO INCLUDED A BALANCED, =4dBm CONVERTER!!!! Available as an optional extra, Rigel ensures full signal compatibility in any professional recording environment. The analogue circuitry of the MS6 runs off +/-12V. This isn't enough to produce +4dBm so the Rigel kit includes a miniature +/-15V linear power supply which I managed to fit into the MS6 case without compromising anything.

I cannot test your MS6 if the original power supply in your unit has already failed. If there are other issues that become apparent once power can safely be applied, resolving them may incur further costs.

A WORD ON SHIPPING COSTS

Annoyingly, my shopping cart software displays shipping information after you’ve confirmed your payment option. I’m trying to get this changed as I believe that customers should always know exactly what they’re paying. Of course, I have no control over import duties but I try my best to give clear, concise information.

I therefore maintain a ‘Shipping Prices’ page and visitors to my website who are interested in buying stuff, have the opportunity to check shipping costs to their country / region.

My shipping costs are calculated on item value and not weight as everything is insured.

UPDATE - 24th September 2025

I didn't realise how popular this thing would be. I definitely didn't realise that there were so many MS6s out there and MS6 diehards! Always wanting to do a little better, I managed to make a deal directly with the manufacturer of the enclosure and decided to buy a few, all with a view to reduce the price of my external power supply for the Cheetah MS6.

I'm now delighted to announce that the enclosure is only available in red but the price of the whole kit has actually come down! Yes, that's correct. No expensive option for the red case and the price is actually lower.
